The LIMES ENSEMBLE is the brainchild of the pianist and composer Luigi Pecchia.
The Ensemble is characterized by having a variable structure without “borders” both in terms of its members and of the repertoire offered which ranges from the traditional chamber music repertoire of the Classic, Romantic and Modern periods to traditional ethnological and popular music arranged for different instrumental combinations, but more commonly for Piano and Strings.
This is the significance of the word “Limes” (from Latin, meaning “border”) which is to be interpreted as a boundary and a link between creative experiences of diverse musical extraction alongside chamber music of the well-known refined European tradition.

The members of the LIMES ENSEMBLE, united by a great friendship, are musicians who have developed their skills and experience by playing in famous chamber groups or as principal players in important symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras and Baroque ensembles (Concerto Italiano, Freon Ensemble, Quartetto Michelangelo, etc...). They have also participated and collaborated with prestigious master-classes such as the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the International Music Campus in Sermoneta.

Among the recent activity of the LIMES ENSEMBLE, it should be noted that with the Soprano Silvia Colombini they have performed recitals in Italy and abroad and, among these, a long tour of concerts in China that included engagements in important theatres such as the Concert Hall of Shanghai.
The LIMES ENSEMBLE places particular importance on projects that involve the performance of complete cycles of composers’ works for a particular medium: they already have performed the complete works for Violoncello and Piano of Beethoven and Mendelsshon, the Piano trios and Piano Quartets of Mozart, Schubert’s chamber repertoire with Piano, as well as cycles of the music of Astor Piazzolla in the Piano Quintet version (Violin, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass and Piano).

Of great interest to the LIMES ENSEMBLE are transcriptions and re-elaborations of the music of composers who have dedicated part of their creative activities to film music, in particular, to those who are defined as “Minimalist”. This has produced new and original expressive results in their artistic production in the union of Music and Visual Image, notably in the works of Michael Nyman and Guillaume Yann Tiersen.
Among the future engagements of the LIMES ENSEMBLE, is the realization of a CD Book with original music by Luigi Pecchia, whose compositions are inspired by the revision of songs of the popular tradition of Southern Italy. Also included in the collection are arrangements and original creative input of famous music composed for the Cinema, Television and Theatre.
